Trustee and Protector Services

At KIKLON Partners, we provide licensed and regulated Trustee services under Cyprus law and the Cyprus Bar Association, ensuring your trust is administered with integrity, compliance, and strict fiduciary care. We act as Trustee both in Cyprus and abroad where permitted, or we coordinate with your chosen co-Trustee to safeguard assets, oversee distributions, and ensure full adherence to the Trust Deed, Cyprus Trust Law, and your long-term objectives.

Our trustee role extends far beyond basic administration. We operate as an active governance partner—maintaining proper records, engaging with beneficiaries, coordinating with tax and legal advisors, and ensuring the trust remains compliant across multiple jurisdictions.

We also offer Protector services, providing settlors and families with an additional layer of oversight and control. As Protector, we may be empowered to appoint or remove trustees, approve key trustee decisions, and ensure the trust is managed in accordance with the settlor’s intentions and the evolving needs of the family.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A well-drafted Trust Deed and Letter of Wishes clearly set out how your assets should be managed, distributed, and safeguarded. The Trustee’s job is to follow these documents and act solely in the best interests of your beneficiaries. At KIKLON Partners, we ensure that your trust documents give you as much direction and oversight as you require.

Yes. The Trust Deed typically allows the Protector (or Settlor, if so reserved) to remove and replace Trustees to ensure that the right professionals are in place. Similarly, a Protector can be changed to ensure independence and alignment with your family’s needs.

This is where the Protector role becomes essential. A Protector has the power to approve or veto key Trustee decisions, ensuring that the trust is always managed in line with your wishes. Appointing an experienced and independent Protector adds an extra layer of security and oversight.

Cyprus International Trusts offer strong asset protection, provided they are not established with the intent to defraud existing creditors. Assets transferred into a trust are shielded from future claims, forced heirship rules, and matrimonial disputes, giving you peace of mind.

A Letter of Wishes allows a Settlor to communicate their intentions, family governance principles, and long-term vision to the Trustee. Although not legally binding, it carries strong moral and practical weight and guides the Trustee when making decisions. We assist clients in drafting clear, updated Letters of Wishes to avoid disputes and reflect life changes (marriage, divorce, new heirs, asset sales).

Absolutely. A CIT can hold Cyprus and international holding companies, SPVs, real estate, bank accounts, investment portfolios, and even intellectual property anywhere in the world. This structure allows you to centralize governance, benefit from Cyprus’s tax treaties, and streamline succession planning.

Yes. A Cyprus International Trust (CIT) requires at least one Cyprus-resident regulated Trustee (such as KIKLON Partners), but you may also appoint a co-Trustee from your home country. This is common practice for Settlor peace of mind — for example, appointing your trusted lawyer, accountant, or family adviser as a co-Trustee. This dual structure allows for local compliance and international oversight, ensuring your wishes are implemented while maintaining continuity with your existing advisers.

A Cyprus International Trust (CIT) is highly tax-efficient. It is not subject to Cyprus income or corporate tax on worldwide income (except for Cyprus-sourced income). If there is no Cyprus income and no Cyprus-resident beneficiary, the CIT is not required to submit Cyprus tax returns.

Distributions to non-resident beneficiaries are fully exempt from Cyprus tax, and there is no withholding tax on payments from the trust. Capital gains from non-Cyprus assets are outside the Cyprus tax net, and there is no estate duty or inheritance tax.
